The defensive retreat started when Pickford stopped playing out and started hoofing it. Just like he did against Italy and Spain. Why hasn't anyone else seen this
@
the team actually just went straight to dropping deep and defending as soon as they scored… tuchel’s mistake was doubling down on that instead of sending in fresh legs. sucks but at the end of the day that is Lionel Messi on the opposing side, you gotta be brave.
@
So you’re asking me to believe that tuchel asked the 11 that just scored to start dropping into a back 6?

The positions that Argentina began to take up high and wide while also being between the wing backs and central defenders is what pins them back.

After the goal at 55 to this point england have had no touches in the opponents half and have not attempted much less completed even 3 passes.

They dont touch the ball again in argentina half until about minute 65.

Every goal kick pickford pumps the ball long for them to lose it and Argentina recirculates the ball.

I believe tuchel makes the subs to aid in what the players are doing as mentally they have already given up on playing instead to just hold on

Gordon was the most dynamic presence in the game for England. Not just for his scoring threat, but his agrressive pressure on defense up top. Pulling him as early as he did not only reduced England's scoring threat but took off pressure on Argentina's fullbacks.

Eliot Anderson was in the D before the equaliser he got drawn over to Messi who was already marked and left a huge space for Enzo to score

England substituted in 3 defenders at 72' and a further 2 at 82' while 1-0 ahead and then two forwards at 90 +6'. It's like setting oneself up to lose.

He did exactly what the says he would not do. He was ultimately the guy who was more afraid to win than to lose. he turned the thing into a shooting gallery.
@
If Tuchel had sent the team to attack to get the second goal and Argentina had won still at least the fans would not have been so upset about this loss, but to lose like this is just unforgivable and the fact that the guy had the guts to come and say that he has no regrets. That is it for me. He should be sacked immediatly

A complete dereliction of duty by Tuchel

40 minutes of free kicks.

12% possession after the England goal. Gave the game to Messi on silver platter

You cannot be champions when you are scared to lose

A shiver went down my spine when Tuchell said he hadn't watched the previous Argentina game in the pregame press conference... I just thought .. WTF.
@
By the time Argentina equalised, the defensive line was back in the concourse.
@
“If we lose, we lose our way” - where did this mentality go??

I had high hopes for someone like tuchel. Couldn’t believe he parked the bus so early.

Where did it go wrong tactically for England v Argentina?
