You are also forgetting the big push for electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure that comes along with it.
@
I've heard about problems with an aging electricity network in the USA for more than 2 decades.
Has during these decades nothing been done to improve it?
@
The problem is they keep building and building and building and building but the one thing they don't build is new power plants who's stupid thinking was that
@
It’s insane that selfish greedy politicians are allowing AI factories to be built where their is not a surplus of electricity to support this huge users of power.
@
Less AI data centers and more community gardens.
@
We have ringing the alarm bells over the 'GRID' well before the AI boom. If they want to build Data Centers the AI companies need to bring their own power or invest in the grid upgrades. American seniors are at their braking point on utility bills. They should not have to pay for technology they do not use.

Consumers should go on strike. DON'T PAY.
@
Imagine what is about to happen when temps hit 120 in the mid west in a week or so.
@
You know what's way worse than artificial intelligence?

Human greed and stupidity. It's killing us.
@
data centers=wall st greed

That explains why no matter how much we cut back, our electric bills keep going up.
@
SPOILER: the data centers were the guilty power gobblers.
Don't let them build one near you and if there is one, make them shut it down.

I worked in manufacturing. Even 15 years ago..if power company called, we had to scale back.
@
It's just a matter of time. Our infrastructure is frail.

Let’s not forget the rivers running dry and the hydro dams running out of water like Lake Mead and Lake Powell.

What are we doing here? The big money couldn’t wait for the grid to be built out and hardened. China massively overbuilt their electric grid for their Ai. A data center has been approved near me and now there is not going to be enough water. They said 2 lakes that people live and boat on will have to be drained to feed the data centers once built. This is lunacy
@
Everyone has been saying grid capacity is a huge issue.
@
Wait. “Paying large customer to power down”?! WTF? Why are they paying the people who are sucking up all the energy? Somebody make it make sense.
@
Great reporting once again Mark. No one is talking about this. Thank you. 🙏
@
PJM was close to a grid failure in January 2014 during the polar vortex. This was the night that had Beaver Valley Unit #1 trip due to a main transformer lockout. Perry came close to getting knocked offline when an essential service water line pipe stub froze in the unfinished unit #2.

It's not too different than making people dig their own grave before you put them in it. Data centers want us to pay for their AI that's going to take our jobs away.
@
Grid cant keep up now lets talk about the water usage and neighborhood and land destruction.
@
Most people don’t even want AI.

Maine has a moratorium on data centers through the end of 2027 to evaluate the impact of them on our state. I'm confident that by that time it will be obvious that it would be catastrophic in our state.
@
Canadian here. I thank you for your knowledge fine sir.
@
The AI bubble can’t burst soon enough.
@
I wish this story was a surprise but alas when demand increases rapidly and supply is effectively limited, I expect to see this story repeat many times.

It means that privately owned credit is going to implode under its own weight.

Yes I was aware….DATA CENTERS ARE SUCKING US DRY…
@
Data centers are disgraceful.
