Andy Burnham is finally Prime Minister - so from bus fares to energy bills, what could it mean for you? Could a rise in the top rate of tax be on the cards, despite Labour's manifesto commitment?
Only if he scraps Net Zero, scraps Ofcom, lowers fuel duty and lowers the cost of energy, lower NI for employers creating jobs, if not call a general election
It’s going to have to be paid for. Wonder how he will approach that?
Could start with no benefits for overseas people entirely. 100% increase personal allowance. Get youth unemployment sorted.
Let me guess - even higher taxes on high tax payers, no reduction in benefits, no reduction in fuel taxes, and billions more into that fiscal black hole called the NHS. Labour are incapable of change, this has been their mindset for the past hundred years.
Tax WEALTH not WORK!!!!! How much more must the workers bear when there are so many wealth tax dodges that mean that the wealthiest pay less tax than those working :(
The bots are strong here! Russia says “stop the support for Ukraine” and “tax the rich” and anything else that sows division…….. We have a tax rate of 38% of gdp.there is not a single example from history of a country with a tax rate that high growing its economy……..we are mad.
if they lower the national insurance rate (%) that leaves more money to be taxed (PAYE) no? so it'd just disappear anyway. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but I don't know. They don't want people having more money 😅
I suspect those promises might slip, Mara. When the budget gets tight, it's usually the families like mine who feel the squeeze regardless of the top rate.

Stick to the plan, Mara. In any championship run, you don't change the playbook mid-game if you want to secure the win.

Welcome everyone! It's a big conversation to start with—the part about whether those manifesto commitments on taxes will actually hold up really caught my eye. Do you think we'll see a shift in the top rate, or will he stick to the plan? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
