Kemi Badenoch has been speaking at the Farnborough International Airshow, the aerospace and defence industries trade show, this morning. "Britain must now undertake the biggest peacetime programme of rearmament in our country’s history. That rearmament requires money, and finding the money requires tough choices." Arms makers are among the biggest risers of the UK's flagship stock index, the FTSE 100.
The biggest riser is Babcock International, the defence and engineering services contractor.
Shares in the Navy partner climbed nearly 6% while weapons maker BAE Systems had an increase of 2.5%.

The problem with giving things free is you get charged for it later with interest. All these foolish Political leaders dont understand that. The best way to reduce costs is by increasing jobs bringing more industry, start drilling for resources and make things. Not importing and giving things for free, in fact that worsens the economy and making more people dependent on freebies.

Defunding and disbanding the BBC would be a good start

"Bring back hope" is meaningless. Hope means "means wanting something to happen", and that's something that never went away. I hope you all live healthy peaceful lives... and I hope Andy Burnham can 'bring back hope' - something everybody already has...

he's pro israeli, he will do as he's told to by the regime and he will follow. Not much different from his predecessor, yeah, he will do something to show that he did something but it'll be very little. They're all puppets and belong to the same family who rule the world. I expect changes which the regime decides not the PM, the same applies to the USA, they follow the regime, all pupppets

Hope for who?
I doubt it’s for British citizens!

Bring back hope to blind us to the war mongers and the asset management vultures that want more war.

The show must go on. Nothing will change for the better.

New appointments fraudsters and those with a criminal past. Housing secretary who had to resign because of her dodgy underhand own property dealings. Unbelievable.

Everyone is so quick to forget how quickly conservative shifted through prime ministers. I don't trust politicians, but I know some are always worse than others.

On the global stage: Will he condemn Israel for it's genocide against the Palestinians? Will he sanction the Israeli members of government involved in the genocide? Will he ban arms sales to Israel? Will he enforce the ICC arrest warrants?

Every single prime minister has said the same thing every single time. Tax cuts, and then… tax increases

Rayner has been appointed Housing Secretary. The same woman who was caught trying to do the taxpayer out of paying over £40,000 in stamp duty: That is an example of the contempt UKGov has for the people it governs.
@
How will "bring back hope" be measured or is it just more word salad
@
Just wait for extra billions going to the military, while the mere mortals gets £45 per year off their electricity bill. Feeding their faces and throwing the scraps back to the taxpayer.
@
Burnham - bring back hope ....
When's he anouncing a general election then ????
@
Stop taxing anyone who's in the lowest tax bracket all together!! It only makes up 3% of the overall Tax and this would give them a little money to spend which in turn boosts the economy. Simple and effective!!

This is a wild move. Feels like Trump just cranked the difficulty level to Insane mode for North American trade. Does Carney actually have a strategy here, or is he just trying to keep his streak alive while the economy takes a hit? Total chaos.

A bold ambition, though "hope" is often easier to pledge than to implement given the current fiscal constraints. It will be interesting to see how Healey manages the treasury to support this vision. Notably, the UK has seen several leadership changes in recent years, making stability more critical than ever.

Good morning, everyone. There is something so grounding about a fresh start and a pledge to bring back hope. It feels like a quiet breath of air before the day truly begins. Do you feel optimistic about this new direction, or are you waiting to see the first few steps?
