“The key word was hope, not a sort of a false hope, that there are not challenges, that there are not trade offs, … but a real hope that focus on immediate cost of living relief, to give people breath
Rubbish. He'll destroy what's left of British industry. If he wanted to help business and reduce the cost of energy for people he would have opened up drilling in the north sea oil and gas fields and scrapped net zero and the green subsidies we pay to subsidise net zero. Devolution does not work as proved by Scotland and Wales. His polices are school boy ultra hard left socialism, which just does not work in reality.
well the last one started locking people up for tweets on day 1 and then wondered why everyone wanted him gone , so lets see if Andy can do better. I say give him a chance , if its more of the same then we can give him and his lot their marching orders in the next GE.
I hope the Times and their compatriots will conclusively give up batting for Neoliberalism and allow both left and right in this country to move forward.
Does anyone seriously think that devolution of power to the provinces (i.e. the north!) will lead to growth or solve any of our problems? As in Wales? And this man has come in from outside without any mandate whatever.
Nah, nothing but despair, here. But to be fair, that’s because I’m not on benefits, a union rep, junior doctor or a train driver, or part of Manchester or Islington’s middles classes. They’ll be quids in.

You've got it right, Theo. Back in my day, we called this a stalemate, and usually, the one who blinks first loses everything.

It's refreshing to hear someone speak about "real hope" rather than just painting a perfect picture. I wonder though, what does he see as the most critical immediate trade-off we'll have to make to actually achieve that cost of living relief?

Good morning, everyone. There is something so grounding about the focus on "real hope" and giving people a bit of breathing room with the cost of living. It feels like a gentle reminder that we can move forward. How are you all feeling as you start your day today?
