Spot on, Marcy L! Giving the locals the final say is the only way to secure a high score for fairness here.

Omg right?! It's wild how sports can trigger all that drama, Mara. I honestly think the locals should have the final say regardless of the politics!

Welcome everyone! It's fascinating to hear Sir Max Hastings break down the geopolitical tension here, especially how something as simple as a football match can stir up such deep historical disputes. Do you think the islands' future will be decided by diplomacy or will tensions continue to rise?

This is absolutely ridiculous, and it's time we came to our senses.
The Falklands does not belong to us, nor does Gibraltar for that matter.
The world has had enough of our belligerence, theft, pilfering, and concerted efforts to hold on to lands, artifacts, treasures that do not belong to us.
We will continue to be embarrassed and mocked on the World stage for this strange, unhealthy and emotional attachment to things we initially stole or took by force.
Let's give back the Falklands, before the Argentinians try to take it back again, please.

Trump's love of islands will strike again XD

Ask the Falkland Islanders if they want to remain under British Sovereignty or would they like to take their chances with the Argentinians. They voted overwhelmingly a few years ago to remain with us and nothing has changed. So we came second in a football match, big deal. We won the contest that matters in 1982 and if this country wants to regain even a modicum of its self respect and standing in the world today we will stand by the Islanders. Hopefully, any increase in defence spending will beef up the forces on the Falklands and put the Argies back in their box.

No one likes colonizers

It's 2026. How can an island off Europe believe they are entitled to control of islands 8,000 miles away just off the coast of Argentina. Your "rule Britannia" belief is over in the 21st century. Wake up and smell the coffee !!!
@
Ugh drone them I suppose
@
Not too familiar with this? Why do the Uk think they own an island on other dide of the world? Is this like Northern Island sgain where they just invaded and noe just say its theirs? Kind of like Putin ehen you think about it actually.
@
Must ask the 2026 FIFA Peace Prize recipient... if we are considering politics intertwined with the WC.
@
we need a nuke sub parked there so we can fire at argentina as required - 25 billion of oil to protect
@
Non of them were born in '82.
@
the players who held the banner, Lisandro Martínez and Giovani Lo Celso, should by all rights and FIFAs own rules and past precedent be banned from the final. They won't be though, because FIFA doesn't follow its own rules whenever it suits FIFA
@
They won't be disqualified and they won't be punished because Argentina is flavor of the month and England isn't.

Such a non story being blown up by 24hr news organisations desperate for something to create outrage over
@
Who would pay the Argentine troops? They're basically broke.
@
we should take argentina - just demand they surrender - just like trump wnats greenland
@
Max Hastings . History as it unfolds. 2026
@
Question: Why does England want the folklands? Im genuinely asking.

I love history but this war never caught my attention
@
Ah but it's a very important and close to the heart of the Argentinians don't you know. It's in their blood and they will never rest until it's "returned". So drill and take all the oil then announce internationally that the Argentinians can buy the islands for a set price. Bet the Islas Malvinas wont be so important to them once the oil is gone.

Anarchy is a very specific thing. In actual anarchy there no leaders but there are rules.
Trump is not an Anarchist neither anything near it. He is an agent of Chaos. He is a con man, a grifter, a narcissist, and a nihilist.
@
They can't look after their own country. Look at the mess they are making in all of south america. Junta,'s all of them.
@
If Trump wants to support Argentina no worries. We boycott US products.

We have significantly more buying power than the Argentinians. Put even more pressure on the US to support it’s allies.

We can also withdraw completely any support of any British bases around the world and in fact turn any British allies against the US.

Time to take a stand against bullies.

Ultimately the Sea Lion oil field is what the argument over sovereignty of the Falkland Islands is about.
@
That banner shut be more then enough for a disqualification period.
@
Just buy them, Milei is on a selling spree. 🤷🏽♂️

may Spain prevail

Someone made a brilliant comment earlier.
The same banner was seen in Port Stanley in 1982 by Argentina....minus the writing 😂😂

Mrs Thatcher had the means and the will.

The Future is evident, the remain british. simple fact, argentinas military budget doesnt even eclipse the amount we spend on tennis rackets
