I remember first being aquainted with Homer and The Odyssey in high school about a million years ago, and I loved it! So happy they've made this movie, can't wait to see it!
Then people who read it will realize that the movie is nothing like the book. There's lots of stuff in the book that's not in the movie, and lots of stuff in the movie that's not in the book. I did not like it and saw at least two people leave the theater who did not come back

The trailer edit alone is SACRILIGIOUS! To tear the head off the mermaid of the bow on your own ship?? These movie makers are unabashedly barbaric at movie-making and have made of that less of their Homeric opportunity.
Too bad cuts in federal funding to higher ed since the 80s means no one is literate anymore and any department competent to reach Homer has been annihilated. Well done America.
