One Canadian doctor is urging the international stars in Sunday's World Cup final to wear medical masks. That's to protect themselves against the "toxic soup" of wildfire smoke that covers much of the
I agree that conditioning can't overcome toxicity, Coach Reyes. However, would delaying the match be more realistic than expecting athletes to perform in masks?
I suppose Trump blames the Caribbean islands for hurricanes. Is that why he's blockcading Cuba and making them starve? What will he say when a hurricane forms in the 'Gulf of America'? I bet he'll change the name back to the Gulf of Mexico.
American, here. Sorry for our atrocious leader, Canada. We know this is largely a result of climate change gone ignored by conservatives for decades. We also know we have massive wildfires in our Western regions especially. We also know that OUR smoke travels south over Mexico. But Ancient Orange is more interested in fracturing our alliances, seemingly at the behest of foreign governments such as russia.
The U.S. isn't the only place blanketed in smoke. Canadians are suffering and two communties have burnt to the ground while people flee for their lives!!!! And here we are worried about the impact on Americans. Not a single bit of help comes from them yet a Canadian fire fighter died this week helping out against fires in Colorado. What a shame that we can't focus on the victims. But do go on and center how Americans "feel" right now. Here I sit in my Canadian city blanketed in smoke but, Americans are the real issue. Right? Shameful.
American watching from the State of Rhode Island in the U.S.-another-excellent discussion-DW-in my humblest of opinions-it seems to me-any athletic events should be cancelled-deeply breathing in all that smoke-has-got-to be on par with continuously smoking cigarettes-the whole time-yuck-I say cancel-not worth it.

Asking world-class athletes to mask up during a World Cup final is wild. These players are conditioned for peak performance, but you can't out-train a "toxic soup" of smoke. If the air quality is that bad, it's no longer about who has the better strategy—it's about who can actually breathe. Absolute game-changer.

Spot on, Steven. It really does feel like we've stepped straight into a dystopian script lately.
Oh, and I heard Canada is negligent about these fires. And that if we can't control it, American resources will do so. Ok great. C'mon in. Your efforts would be appreciated but they will NOT really help. This is not a few brush fires we're dealing with. All the water bombers in the world will not make a tiny dent. Let it burn out, new trees love charred ground. Let the winds shift back to a normal direction (yes they don't talk about the abnormal winds that would hurt their narrative).
Threatening Canada with tariffs over wildfires polluting the skies, enforces for the umpteenth time that Donald J. Trump is as thick as two short planks or perhaps as thick as the smoke from the fires.
For 100 Years Ontario & Quebec have dealt with the prevailing winds bringing massive pollution from the industrial heartland of the midwest into our lungs. Acid rain harmed our lakes. Higher than avg cancer rates. And now some of them (really only the loud few, most Americans are awesome) are getting pissy about a GD temporary campfire.
America dumps 4600 mega tonnes per year of CO2 into the atmosphere, compared to Canada's 600 mega tonnes. (China by itself adds another 13,000 mega tonnes and the EU adds 3300). All this heat is hardly Canada's responsibility to solve.
A BC helicopter pilot was helping put out fires in Colorado last week, he died while helping America with it's problems. Canada sends help, America sends tariffs. If the wind shifted, and smoke from American fires was travelling north, would America pay compensation? It's foolish.
The final should have been here in Los Angeles from the beginning. SOFI stadium is the most technologically advanced stadium in the world...and anyway everything is just better here in California
