An huge amount of fossil fuel by-products go into producing all sorts of things. EV's contain a lot of these in the form of plastics and lubricants. Computers and smart phones also rely heavily on fossil fuel by-products as does a lot of medical equipment and medicines, oh, and don't forget fertilisers and cleaning and detergents stuff too. If these just stop oil idiots would be prepared to give up their road, rail and air travel along with their medication, smart phones and cleaning chemicals etc. by all means let them go and live on a remote oil free island and let the more sensible ones among us get on with our lives in peace instead of trying to force their misguided views on everyone. They are hypocrite's of the first order.
How long is the lead time from starting to drill and begining to actually extract oil? How much oil is left in the North Sea? If it is a commercially viable project why hasn't the oil industry done it?

Drilling or not drilling doesn’t change demand and carbon output. It’s supplied by our fields or imports . There is not another example of investors not being allowed to put their own money in to a secure industry.

The Labour Party says the climate crisis is catastrophic for the UK and with immediate effect - hence strict net zero policy. If the Labour Party now allows limited drilling then they admit the whole climate change movement is just a sham - a politically inspired means for politicians to virtue signal .

It does feel like a bit of a contradiction, doesn't it? I always find myself torn between wanting to move away from fossil fuels entirely and the practical side of just using what's right here in our own backyard rather than shipping it in from halfway across the world. It reminds me of how I try to grow my own herbs instead of buying the plastic packets at the shop. Makes more sense.
