My whole life, I've always been so fascinated by 3 things- Dinosaurs, the ocean, and space. One day it just hit me that the reason I'm probably so captivated by these 3 things in particular is because of how little we know about them all. It's so cool to me that we're constantly learning more and more, and realistically, the learning will never stop!

Evolutionary biologist here! You can also use eDNA for terrestrial animals, too. For example, a group in Germany uses eDNA samples collected from tree leaves to study insect biodiversity. I have worked on ancient environmental DNA before, and there is a term, "Microbial Dark Matter," similar to what you explained in the video, because microorganisms are a whole different world, too. I will be starting my PhD this year, and coincidentally, in Oceanography! So I'm excited for where the path leads!
