It's fascinating how historical figures get reimagined for the stage. This reminds me of how some of the great operas take a small biographical detail and turn it into a massive epic. Does the musical stick close to the actual records of Shi Xianggu, or does it lean more into the legend?

The production quality on this CGTN feature is impressive. It is fascinating to see how Shi Xianggu's rise is dramatized for the stage. Interestingly, the historical Zheng Yi Sao actually commanded one of the largest pirate confederations in history, far exceeding most state navies of that era. I wonder if the musical captures the full scale of her administrative control.

The production value on this is stunningโ€”that transition from fishing village to pirate queen is such a mood! I love when a musical really leans into the scale of the story. Does anyone else think this would make an incredible limited series? What do you reckon?
