Tuchel turned into Southgate. Same old story why did he change it after the goal? Sad to think harry may not get another world cup as a player hopefully he gets another Euros. Hopefully he will stay part of the england set up though and get to lift the trophy he deserves.
What I don’t understand is Tuchel said at halftime against Croatia that England had to show who they were and “take the shackles off” but against Argentina, when he had them against the ropes, he put the shackles on. Pretty pathetic from Tuchel tbh. Bottles it at the most important moment. Just like Southgate, no balls , like Garly Lineker would say, cojones.
If it’s such fine margins at this level, why do England continue to think they can nick 1-0 wins against elite opposition? Go 1-0 up against Croatia and park the bus, go 1-0 up against Italy and park the bus, go 1-0 up against Argentina and park the bus. The definition of insanity…
Tuchel deserves to be sacked with ignominy. His decision to field six (!) defenders to protect a single-goal lead, with zero counter attacking threat on the pitch, and plenty of options sitting on the bench, was idiotic, incomprehensible, shameful, frankly disgusting. I knew England would lose when he made the first two subs. I'm not even English and I'm indignant.
It's one thing to lose a match against a good opponent. It's another thing entirely to completely capitulate in the way that Tuchel did. As soon as Gordon went off, everything collapsed spectacularly - AS EVERY SINGLE PERSON WATCHING THE GAME EASILY PREDICTED!! Probably the single most heinous example I've seen - in all my decades of watching the game - of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Ridiculous and heartbreaking...
The missing piece? The courage, conviction and belief the Three Lions are supposed to represent. Instead, it felt like we retreated into our shell and collapsed.
After England went 1-0 up on 55 minutes, they spent the next 45 minutes with 12% possession. 12%! Some stats just don’t lie. Translation: “Ok, now we’ve scored we’ll park the bus and give you (Lionel Messi et al!) the ball and invite as much pressure as possible.” Southgate déjà vu against Croatia and Italy. And here was me thinking the point of hiring someone like Tuchel (and paying him a king’s ransom) was to make the brave front-foot call when a goal has been scored. You might be able to (just!) get away with parking the bus against Mexico and Norway but you’re asking for trouble doing it against Messi’s Argentina. 12% possession for a full 45 minutes after taking the lead is disgraceful and tells you that Tuchel, like Southgate, simply bottled it. New, *BRAVER* manager needed!
