The 2026 World Cup has finally come to a close, as Rodri, Lamine Yamal & Spain defeated Lionel Messi & Argentina 1-0 in extra time. Join Hannah Cash, Nico Cantor, Charlie Davies and Jimmy Conrad as th
Argentina’s fiercest rivalry is with Brazil, fueled by decades of clashes between South America’s top teams. During the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Argentine fans mocked the hosts with the chant “Brasil, decime que se siente” (“Brazil, tell me how it feels”) as their team advanced. Tensions with Chile grew after back-to-back Copa América final defeats in 2015 and 2016, both decided on penalties. A lively rivalry with Mexico has also emerged from frequent World Cup matchups and spirited social media banter. Argentina’s style — full of flair and cleverness — can be thrilling, though some see it as pushing fair play’s limits. For many, “anyone but Argentina” has become the go-to mindset in tournaments. This year, that’s meant backing whoever plays them — wearing Algeria’s green, Cape Verde’s blue, or Switzerland’s red. Even England, often criticized, saw a wave of global support before their semifinal, and in Sunday’s final, it could mean cheering in Spain’s red.
Nico spot on with his breakdown of Arg. Interesting he thought starting Simeone would be better, but he doesn’t provide any threat going forward. Nico Gonzales is better as a sub. Playing Messi as RW in a 4-3-3 would’ve left mid exposed against Spain like France did. Tough to call for Scaloni any way you looked at it Spain keep the ball so well
As the panel suggested when referring to how much better 2022 was, DI MARIA left a void that hasn’t been filled. The current wingers are few and poor, slow as well and not as nimble as Di Maria was
It’s a real conundrum what happens next as another rebuild is needed now after end of cycle of players of mascherano Higuain etc opened the door for this new cycle in 2018 after sampaoli
Was disappointed to see Scaloni still rely on the old guard when their form was showing as starting to dip in 2024 Copa, he should’ve been looking at trying to integrate fresh talent esp during qualifiers for this WC, so was surprised to see him revert to now older slower players playing in less competitive leagues , guys coming into this WC with injuries , he’s a good manager but a great one would’ve been more flexible and made braver decisions. Think he got t
From the one touch goal in the final in ‘22 to this, a rebuild is needed. But as Spanish, I know that Spain’s win did not save football from anything. This is just marketing
That's why scaloni and messi were in tears because they know once they were gone ,u don't know about future, when will next time argentina can even come to final. After messi retires their biggest inspiration would be gone can they still have that grit and desire to win still a question that why I wanted this argentina team to win , because there is a high chance that it will take them another 20-30 yrs to reach final. But God was not with messi. Still going to support arg in upcoming yrs even if they do bad my second fav team as a barca fan is spain they have the golden generation in hands so most probably they will heal me if argentina performs bad. Goodbye messi thank you for 3 finals and one wc.
I don't think there were any gentlemen or true sportsmen on Argentina's team yesterday, including Messi. He's the captain, and his team's behavior was embarrassing—not because they lost the game, but because of how they behaved throughout the match and even afterward.
Shame on Lionel Messi. As for their coach, I don't buy his crying either—it felt as if he was making excuses, just like his team.
I'm glad Spain won. Sport won. It was absolutely deserved, especially considering they were robbed of a goal in the final minutes of regular time.
I think Messi don't like Paz , Although he made great season with Como ( Fabargs) and qualities to Champion League next season and I think semi finals in Italy cup.
This guy really trying to say the ending scenes of Argentina fighting don’t represent Argentina????? That’s been how Argentina deal with losing since forever! Argentina is hated by most of South America for a reason and now most of the world! HAHAHAHA
I don't think Argentina 'collapsed' vs Spain, I just think Spain are the best team in the world and they don't allow any team to be at their best, not only Argentina. They did it to France and Portugal as well.

Hats off to Spain. Shame on Messi.
